What a box is

A box is a whole carton of the cut you chose, every bag in it vacuum sealed as packed, in the case size restaurants buy. Some cuts come whole and some come halved, and each cut's page says which, how many pieces its box holds and what it weighs. You choose the cut and the grade, not the count.

Every cut is priced per kilogram. The weight of your box sets the price of your box, so the figure you see before you reserve is an estimate across the weight range on that cut's page, and it is marked as one.

Reserving and paying

You reserve a box with a 50 per cent deposit, calculated on the estimated price. That deposit holds your box for the cycle at the rate per kilogram shown when you reserved. That rate is locked from that moment and does not move.

If you pay the deposit by card, that card pays the deposit and nothing else. Everything is weighed before you're asked for the balance, and the section below sets out who does the weighing for each pack type. At or before collection, we send you an invoice by email and text. It shows the weight, the rate you reserved at, the final price, your deposit taken off and the balance left to pay. Pay it by card with the Pay button on the invoice, or by bank transfer.

Weights, and the most we will charge

Everything is priced per kilogram, at the rate you reserved at. What you pay is that rate against the weight of what you actually collect. Where that weight comes from depends on whether you bought a box or a single bag, so both are set out below.

If you bought a box

Your box reaches us sealed, with the weight the abattoir recorded printed on the outside, and it stays sealed until you collect it. That printed figure is the weight we are charged on and it is the weight we charge you on.

You can read it off the box when you collect and check it against what we charged you. If the two do not match, we reprice the box and refund the difference.

If you bought a single bag

A single bag is one vacuum bag out of a carton. Depending on the cut, it holds a whole primal, half of one, two rib caps or two tri tips. We take yours out still sealed in its vacuum bag and weigh it ourselves, on the scales in our cold room in Emerald. A single primal carries no label of its own, so that figure comes from our scales rather than from a print you can read.

So you can watch it happen. Ask when you collect and we will weigh your primal in front of you before you pay. If you would rather not wait, we weigh it beforehand and the figure is on your invoice either way, next to the rate and the arithmetic.

The most we will charge you, either way

Every cut has a weight range, and it is on that cut's page before you reserve anything. A box and a single bag have different ranges, because they are different amounts of beef.

If what you collect comes in above the top of its range, we charge you for the top of the range and you keep the difference. That is the most we will ever charge you for one, whichever way you bought it.

If it comes in below the bottom of its range, you choose: take it at the weighed price, or cancel it for a full refund.

Changing your mind

You can cancel any box for a full refund at any time before the cycle closes. Reply to your confirmation email and we will refund the deposit.

Once a cycle closes we place one order with our supplier for every box reserved in it, and your box is bought at that point. After that we refund your deposit if we can sell your box to somebody else, or if our supplier cannot fill it. Otherwise the deposit stands against what we have already paid for it.

When a cut or grade is short

The grade you choose is the grade we order for you, and we do our best to get it. Grades depend on our supplier and on what's available each cycle, so a grade can't be promised.

Sometimes a cut or a grade comes up short at our supplier. When that happens you choose one of three things: a full refund of your deposit, a different cut or grade of the same value or better at no extra cost, or we carry your box to the next cycle at the rate you reserved at.

We email you and wait seven days for your answer. If we have not heard from you by then we refund the deposit.

Collecting your box

You collect your box from our cold room in Emerald. We email you the day yours is ready and you reply with a time that suits.

We hold your box at temperature for 14 days from that email, and we will contact you twice in that time. Somebody else can collect it for you: tell us who and we will have it ready for them.

If a box is still here 30 days after we told you it was ready, we may sell or dispose of it, and the money paid for it is not refunded. We would much rather hear from you, and a reply to any of our emails is enough to hold it longer.

Your rights under Australian Consumer Law

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or a refund for a major failure, and to compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if they are not of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure.

Nothing on this page limits those rights. If something is wrong with your beef, tell us and we will sort it out.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The terms that apply to your order are the ones published when you reserved it, and the rate per kilogram you reserved at is locked whatever else changes.
